Cyclonic Storm Remal Causes Tragedy

Thirteen people lost their lives as a result of strong thunderstorms and rain brought on by the cyclonic storm Remal in the Bay of Bengal. The storm caused transportation and power supply disruptions, uprooted trees, and damaged communication and energy towers.

 

Impact of Thunderstorms

On Sunday evening, Telangana had intense rain, thunderstorms, and lightning, resulting in up to 13 fatalities in various incidences. Strong gusts and a lot of rain caused chaos in a number of areas, including Hyderabad, the state capital. Thirteen people lost their lives as a result of the rain and thunderstorms caused by the strong cyclonic storm Remal in the Bay of Bengal. Trees were uprooted, communication towers and electricity were destroyed, and transportation and power supplies were affected.

 

Casualties Reported

Just in the Nagarkurnool district, seven people died. There were reports of two deaths from Medak and four from other areas of Hyderabad. The districts of Nagarkurnool, Medak, Ranga Reddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, and Nalgonda were all severely damaged by the powerful gales.

 

Specific Incidents

In Tandoor village, Nagarkurnool district, a chicken shed that was still under construction collapsed, killing four persons, including a father and a daughter. Four people were injured in the event, including construction workers Chennamma (38), Ramudu (36), and farmer Mallesh (38), as well as his daughter Anusha (12). From the same district, three further deaths were recorded. A pair perished due to lightning.

Two people were riding a motorcycle at Shamirpet, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, when an uprooted tree fell on them, killing them. The names of the dead are Nagireddy Rami Reddy (56) and Dhananjay (44). Strong gusts caused bricks from a neighboring house’s roof to fall on Mohammed Rasheed (45) and Mohammed Samad (3), killing them in the Hyderabad neighborhood of Hafeezpet.

 

Widespread Damage

Waves of rain and strong winds also affected the districts of Mahabubnagar, Jogulamba-Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Yadadri-Bhongir, Sangareddy, and Vikarabad. Tree branches fell on electrical cables, transmission and distribution lines broke, and poles were uprooted and destroyed, causing many disruptions to the power supply. Some residences and roads were also hit by debris, cell towers, and hoardings.
