The Magnificent Addition to Ram Temple
Earlier this year, the Ram Temple in Ayodhya underwent a magnificent addition: a unique scientific mechanism designed to adorn the idol of Ram Lalla with a “Surya Tilak” for every Ram Navami starting this year.
Significance of Ram Navami
Ram Navami, which marks the birth anniversary of Lord Rama, is observed on the ninth day of the first month of the Hindu calendar. Usually, it falls in March or April. Ram Navami is commemorated on April 17 this year.
The “Surya Tilak” Mechanism
Every Ram Navami celebration will see the installation of a complex system of mirrors and lenses on the temple grounds. By directing a ray of sunshine onto Ram Lalla’s forehead, this method creates the renowned “Surya Tilak,” a celebration and symbol of reverence.
What is Surya Tilak?
The name Surya Tilak means “Sun Tilak”; a tilak is an auspicious mark that is usually placed on the forehead during Hindu ceremonies. In this instance, a ray of sunshine is used to create the mark rather than colored paste. To accomplish this amazing accomplishment, scientists at the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) painstakingly designed a system of mirrors and lenses.
The Process of “Surya Tilak”
Every Ram Navami, at precisely 12 pm, the “Surya Tilak” effort aims to shine natural sunshine on the forehead of Lord Ram Lalla’s statue. This might last “three to four minutes, potentially extending to around six minutes.” It’s a brief but noteworthy event.
Spirituality Meets Science
Champat Rai believes that Ram Lalla’s “Surya Abhishek” on Ram Navami may be possible.
“We are optimistic that this Ram Navmi, the celestial occurrence of sunlight falling on Ram Lalla, will be made feasible,” stated Champat Rai, the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust‘s general secretary. “Efforts are underway.”
The Role of Experts
This Ram Navmi, the revolutionary “Surya Abhishek”—the sun shining on Ram Lalla’s idol in the Ayodhya temple at around noon—will most likely come to pass, fusing spirituality with cutting-edge science. To ensure the success of the “Surya Abhishek” event, specialists from the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, are camping at Ayodhya.
“We are optimistic that this Ram Navmi, the celestial occurrence of sunlight falling on Ram Lalla, will be made feasible,” Champat Rai reiterated.
Project Management
The project is being managed by Prof. Pradeep Kumar Ramancharla, Director of the CBRI, Roorkee, and Prof. Devdutt Ghosh.
Devotees can currently access the temple’s ground floor while the first story is still under construction.
It should be noted that the CBRI‘s recommendations were followed when laying the temple’s foundation, and the central institute also used its knowledge to guarantee structural strength to assure the temple’s lifespan.
