Introduction to Pratibha Ranta
In the modern era, an actor might become well-known in two ways. First, they get known for their work or on-screen appearance in a major motion picture. Being a minor but important member of a cult is the second. May 2024 has delivered a little bit of both for young Pratibha Ranta. The actress gained attention for her roles in the films Heeramandi and Laapataa Ladies after making her Bollywood debut earlier this year. Many have dubbed her the new national crush of India because of her looks and easy charisma on TV.
How Pratibha Ranta Became a National Crush After Heeramandi Series
Pratibha’s latest on-screen role was in the Netflix series Heeramandi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The younger performer played Shama, an idealistic daughter of Sanjeeda Sheikh’s Waheeda character. Pratibha was able to make an impression on the audience in spite of the presence of big names like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, and Aditi Rao Hydari. Many people have said online that she is even more remarkable than one of the main stars of the show, Sharmin Segal. The phrase “new national crush,” which has previously been applied to actresses such as Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, and Shraddha Kapoor, was coined in reference to her simplicity and on-screen personality.
Many outsiders from small places achieved fame through their own hard effort. An actress who made her feature debut in an Aamir Khan film and is currently commanding attention in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s over-the-top debut has joined this list. The actress in question was spotted presenting her first movie poster in Mumbai and shares a unique bond with Preity Zinta. She is Pratibha Ranta, who plays Shama in the film Heeramandi.
Who is Pratibha Ranta (Heeramandi)?
Pratibha Ranta, who was born in Shimla in 2000, started as an actress in the 2020 television series Qurbaan Hua alongside Karan Jotwani. Pratibha played the lead in the program, which was canceled in September 2021 because of low popularity. The actress later appeared in another TV series called Aadha Ishq. Pratibha made her screen debut in Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies in March of this year, featuring with two other up-and-coming actors, Sparsh Srivastava and Nitanshi Goel. Both reviewers and viewers praised her for the role she played in the movie. When Laapataa Ladies got an OTT release, it elevated her status.
Pratibha Ranta grew up in the village of Rodo, which is 100 kilometers from Shimla. She discovered she wanted to be an actor when she and her sister moved in with her grandparents in Shimla so she could continue her schooling. She disclosed, “My dadi was a working woman at a time when being one was a rarity,” in an interview with Indian Express. I inherited her strength from my mom, as she not only raised her children and saw to their education but also assumed responsibility for my sister and me. She supported us, gave our dreams wings, and gave of her time. However, when I told her that I wanted to use my interest in acting as my career, she expressed skepticism.
Overcoming Challenges
Her grandmother warned her that no one would marry her if she became an actress. This didn’t stop the actress from going after her goals, though, as she traveled to Mumbai by herself to look for a career in acting. She remembered her struggles in the big town on her own. She quickly won her first show, Qurbaan Hua, and at the age of eighteen, she rose to fame in Shimla. She became financially independent as a result of TV, and her family stopped questioning her.
In actuality, she got her first feature film opportunity thanks to television: Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, directed by Aamir Khan Productions. The public responded well to the movie when it premiered, and Pratibha went on to become a star in her very first motion picture. Now appearing in Heeramandi as Sanjeeda Sheikh’s daughter Shama, she is gaining popularity because of her powerful performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first over-the-top film.
A Unique Connection with Preity Zinta
Also, the actress and Preity Zinta share a unique bond. “It is ironic that Preity Zinta is from my hometown (Shimla, Himachal Pradesh) and studied at the same school,” the actress added earlier in an interview with PTI. “For the longest, we only had Preity Zinta who made it to the industry from there,” the actress continued, adding, “My family would often say, ‘Sabki kismat Preity Zinta jaisi nahi hoti.'” Growing up, all I ever heard was that I am a heroine and that I should visit Mumbai one day because I was even called by her name back home. I therefore understood I needed to find something to do.
