The Buzz Around “Kalki 2898 AD”

Since its announcement, Nag Ashwin’s futuristic film “Kalki 2898 AD” has generated a lot of hype. Everyone got excited when the makers released a new poster featuring Amitabh Bachchan today. In yet another thrilling turn of events, the filmmakers have revealed Amitabh Bachchan’s mysterious appearance from Nag Ashwin’s masterpiece.

The Teaser Unveiled

The 21-second teaser opens with Bachchan sitting in a cave praying to a Shiva linga while dressed in cozy earthy tones. Beneath a quiet, soothing soundtrack, there’s a faint sound of a child’s voice asking, “Can you not die? Are you Godlike? Who are you?” Bachchan’s rich voice bellows, “Since ancient times, I have awaited the arrival of the Avatar,” as the tension builds. “I am the son of Guru Drona. Ashwatthama,” he says strongly.

A few months back, Ashwin teased fans with exciting new information about the ambitious science-fiction project, promising “Kalki 2898 AD” to be an incredible visual extravaganza. Speaking at Synapse 2024 in Gurgaon, Ashwin said, “I simply wish there was more technology available to assist us in producing this movie, similar to three or four years ago, during the preproduction phase. Like this, we are creating this new world. I’m just staring at this image on the screen right now, and all these other worlds that we are attempting to construct. We collaborate with an abundance of concept artists and provide prompts—obviously—in a very private, one-on-one manner while attempting to construct this world and provide references.”

Music and Release Date

Santhosh Narayanan is the orchestrator for the musical score of “Kalki,” which is produced by C Aswani Dutt under the banner of Vyjayanthi Movies. Although May 9, 2024 was listed as the global release date in the January announcement, there have been no further updates, raising questions about this timeline.

Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama

In “Kalki 2898 AD,” Amitabh Bachchan plays Ashwatthama. Amitabh appeared to be wearing bandages and had an illuminated mani (gem) on his forehead in a video that was made public on Sunday. In the video, a young viewer queries Amitabh’s identity, divinity, and ability to pass away. Then Amitabh gives his introduction, saying, “Since Dwapar Yug, I have been waiting for the 10th incarnation since Dash avatar ki pratiksha kar raha hoon main, Dronacharya ka putra Ashwatthama.” I am Ashwatthama’s son, Dronacharya.

With Amitabh’s initial glance, the myth of the everlasting Ashwatthama has gained significance. We meet Ashwatthama in a different avatar since “Kalki 2898 AD” is a dystopian future story that is mostly based on Mahabharat. But who is Ashwatthama and what role did he play in the Hindu mythology of Mahabharat as told by Ved Vyas? That’s all there is to it.

Who is Ashwatthama?

Ashwatthama is said to be the son of the sage Dronacharya, who instructed the Pandavas and Kauravas. Renowned for his valor and combat skills, Ashwatthama was an essential character in the Mahabharat. He engaged in combat with Pandava in the Kurukshetra War.

Why did Ashwatthama kill the Pandavas’ five sons?

The legend states that Ashwatthama was furious and distraught during the Battle of Kurukshetra when he discovered that Lord Krishna and the Pandavas had deceived his father, Drona, into believing he had died, and had then killed him on the battlefield. On the tenth day of the war, he became enraged and stormed into the Pandavas’ camp, killing five of Draupadi’s children.

The Curse of Ashwatthama

According to the official Amar Chitra Katha website, it is believed that Arjun and Lord Krishna were enraged by the move and attacked Ashwatthama. Arjun and Ashwatthama launched powerful weapons that could have destroyed the world. The Gods intervened and asked them to take back their weapons. While Arjun successfully did it, Ashwatthama did not know how to. He is said to have redirected it to Uttara’s womb, who was carrying Abhimanyu’s unborn child, in an attempt to end the Pandavas’ lineage. Lord Krishna is said to have intervened and revived the stillborn. Disappointed with his conduct in the war, Lord Krishna curses Ashwatthama with immorality.

Is Ashwatthama still alive?

It is said that Ashwatthama has been condemned to wander the Earth as a reminder of his misdeeds. Although there is no proof that Ashwatthama is still alive, many believe that he is still serving his punishment on Earth.

About “Kalki 2898 AD”

Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani all play prominent roles in “Kalki 2898 AD.” At the Synapse 2024 event in Gurgaon, Nag Ashwin said that the film’s timeline will begin with Mahabharat. He remarked, “The film begins with Mahabharat and concludes in 2898 AD. It covers 6,000 years in time. We attempted to develop universes, envisioning what they would be like while being Indian and avoiding a Blade Runner aesthetic. The film begins 6000 years after 2898 AD, in 3102 BC, when the last avatar of Krishna is said to have passed.”
